The Art of "Pikliz".. spice up your savory meal with this delicious condiment

Ohhh "Pikliz"!! This spicy mixture of freshly chopped cabbage, hint of lime, tangy vinegar, thinly sliced onion & sweet peppers and lets not forget the star of the show.....the infamous Scotch Bonnet Pepper is the definition of the "Spice of Life"!

I always keep a jar of freshly made Pikliz in my fridge.... I PUT THAT *HIT ON EVERYTHING!

Making this spicy concoction is fairly easy and once you get the hang of it you wont even need this recipe, you'll be able to eyeball it.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Large Bowl

  • 2 cups finely shredded Cabbage

  • 1 cup shredded Carrots (Rinsed)

  • 1 tbsp finely diced red bell peppers (optional)

  • 1 tbsp finely diced green bell peppers (optional)

  • 1 tbsp finely diced onions

  • The juice of 1 entire fresh lime

  • 1 crushed garlic

  • 1 tbsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp peppercorn

  • 3 cloves

  • 2-3 very finely diced " Scotch Bonnet Peppers" ( you may need to wear gloves when slicing pepper)

  • 2 cups white vinegar(enough to cover the Cabbage mixture when it in the jar)

  • 1/2 maggie boullion cube

  • Mix everything together in large bowl very well. Transfer to plastic Tupperware bowl/jar with a tight fitting lid and let marinate in refrigerator overnight. Enjoy the next day with fried chicken, fried plantains, stewed fish or as a spicy garnish to any savory dish. Store in refrigerator up to 4 months..

Enjoy! Be sure to share this post. Thanks!
